Abstract:

An examination of the propaganda leaflets printed by the US Army’s Psychological Warfare Branch under General MacArthur. These leaflets, first printed in Australia and later in Leyte and Manila, were attempts to convince Japanese soldiers to surrender. Initially targeting Japanese in the Philippines, later leaflets were aimed at Japanese in Okinawa, Taiwan and Japan proper. An analysis of the leaflets and their effectivity concludes the article.
