Book Talk: Marcos, Martial Law, and the Complexities of Memory in the Philippines

September 22, 2026 (Tuesday), 2:00-4:00 PM
Pilar Herrera Lecture Hall, Palma Hall, UP Diliman

This book talk presents Marcos, Martial Law, and the Complexities of Memory in the Philippines (Routledge, 2026). The edited volume examines memory as an arena of contestation and offers analytical tools for understanding authoritarian nostalgia in the face of democratic challenges.
It will feature a roundtable discussion by the editors and select chapter authors, including Asst. Professor Francisco Jayme Paolo A. Guiang, Maria Sofia Amparo F. Santiago-Jimenez, Asst. Prof. John Carlo S. Punongbayan, and Assoc. Prof. Jay Rome de los Santos. Prof. Patricio N. Abinales, Ph.D., from the University of Hawaii-Manoa, will provide commentary on the discussion.
