Paglulunsad Aklat: Galleons and Social Control in the Spanish Empire
The UP Department of History and the National Historical Commission of the Philippines cordially invite you to the book launch of Galleons and Social Control in the Spanish Empire.
The multi-volume series, edited by faculty members of the History Department, presents one hundred archival documents from the Archivo General de la Nación in Mexico, transcribed, translated, and annotated. Beyond empire and trade, it reveals how ordinary people experienced life on a global scale. The voices of Filipino workers, missionaries, prisoners, smugglers, and sailors battling illness at sea, some long silenced, now take center stage as they offer a richer understanding of the longest maritime trade route in history.
The editors would like to extend their most sincere gratitude. This work has been in the making for many years, sustained not only by research and archival labor but also by the kindness and generosity of family, colleagues, and institutions that have supported the project throughout its journey.
The book launch will be held on November 10, 2025 (Monday), 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Asean Hall, Asian Center, UP Diliman.
