The 4th Loretta Makasiar Sicat Prize for the Social Science Awarding Ceremony and Scientific Lecture will be held on April 11, 2025 (Friday), 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM, at the Pilar Herrera Hall, UP CSSP Diliman, Quezon City.
The Loretta Makasiar Sicat Prize for the Social Sciences (LMS Prize) was established to promote excellence in the social sciences while honoring the lasting impact of Dr. Loretta Makasiar Sicat, whose leadership made the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) a premier institution in the field.
Now in its fourth year, the LMS Prize recognizes outstanding contributions to social science research, and we are proud to announce this year’s winner: Asst. Prof. Emmanuel Jayson V. Bolata, for their thesis titled “Filipino Reception and Appropriation of Modern Astronomical Knowledge, 1859 – 1958.” To commemorate this achievement, a scientific lecture will be held, where Asst. Prof. Bolata will present the findings of their groundbreaking research.
